Acclaimed TV and radio host, established singer/songwriter, and author of 3 books, Kelly Cha is truly one of the hardest working personalities in China!
Kelly attended elementary school and graduate school in the US, and high school and college in China. She is the author of three published books: LOOKING AT
AMERICA-MEMOIRS OF A CHINESE GIRL (written in English and Chinese); MORE THAN CHORDS (in-depth interviews with the top 10 singer-songwriters in China); and
HAPPINESS, a collection of three novellas as well as a soundtrack to the book with three songs and dialogues from the book, published by the People's Publishing House.
Kelly has released several singles to date, including theme songs of TV shows, radio shows, TV dramas and events. She made her international debut in German
rock legend Udo Lindenberg's album of duets DAMENWAHL, released by Warner Music in May, 2006. As the only Asian singer in the album, she appeared alongside
music greats such as Joan Baez and Nina Hagen and performed the song "I Swear". In 2008, she wrote and recorded the theme song to "Zhao Ya Zhao Ya Zhao Pengyou,"
the Chinese version of Friends. Her new single "Your Little Girl" was released in June on a female singer-songwriters compilation. Kelly and her band Orange
Factory are currently active in the Beijing rock scene.
Kelly has been hosting radio since she was in her teens. She has hosted popular shows on KAZN1300 in LA, China National Radio's Music Radio, China Radio
International's Hit FM, and more. Her latest radio program "The ZhaZhaClub Show" launched November 1st, 2008 and airs weekends on CRI's EasyFM. On each Sunday's
show, she features a live in-studio guest for a chat and a performance together. The special online video version of the show is available on Sina.com every
Tuesday. In June 2009, Kelly began producing and hosting one of China's longest running radio shows, "Sunset Boulevard" airing Mon-Fri during prime-time broadcast.
In August 2009, Kelly was granted the only interview during the band's China tour, talking with lead singer Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park for her radio and online show.
Kelly was the acclaimed host of "Action English's Action DJ" in 2007, shown daily on China Central TV's Movie Channel (CCTV-6). She wrote the theme song for her
show and successfully launched a lyrics-writing competition for the song on Myspace.cn.
In April 2008, Kelly officially joined Hunan Satellite TV, hosting the new show "Midnight Mindtwist". In the same month, she hosted the first ever AST China
Invitational, broadcast internationally on NBC, Fox Sports and China's CCTV-5. In July 2008, she travelled to Changsha to host Hunan Satellite TV's blockbuster
launch of "Chinese Bridge". In August, on behalf of "Harpers Bazaar," Kelly went to Denmark to participate in the Copenhagen Fashion Week as the sole Chinese media
personality present at the event. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she hosted a Hunan Satellite TV special at the WOA's official Olympic Gold Medalists' Club,
and in October 2008, Kelly flew to the United States to film a trailer for the US/China co-production of AST China 2009 (Action Sports Tour).
Kelly was trained at the TVI Actors Studio in Los Angeles, and was a part of theater productions in college and during her years in the US. She writes and performs
in both English and Chinese.
